ORLANDO PRIDE DEFEATS NC COURAGE AND IT’S 1 POINT AWAY FROM PLAYOFF CONTENTION.

Orlando Pride from the get go came out swinging. In 36 seconds, after an amazing assist from Adriana, Ally Watt scored a banger that placed the Pride up 1-0. Ally’s goal was the fastest in club history.

After Ally’s goal, Orlando stayed compact and dominated possession. The attacking trio of Adriana, Ally, and Marta were superb in the first half and created plenty of chances, unfortunately, they could not put it away. On defense, Haley McCutcheon, as always, super solid defending, as well as Rafa Souza, spot on neutralizing Tess Boade and Kerolin.

In the 33rd minute, Adriana put Orlando up 2-0 with a phenomenal run past the Courage’s defense. She could not be stopped. After Adriana’s goal, the Pride was on the attacking onslaught and not only dominated the chances in attack but also their defense was able to withstand anything the Courage wanted to throw at them.

The second half continued with Orlando’s relentless pressure. Haley McCutcheon and Rafa Souza proved to be a brick wall commanding the defense. The fans at the Exploria Stadium were on their feet, roaring with excitement as the Pride continued to dominate the match. But in the 52nd minute, Matsukubo scored for the Courage. A wonderful play that caught Orlando’s defense slipping and the Japanese international did not miss the chance to score. After the Courage’s goal, Orlando attempted to continue to push forward and the backline started also to pressure North Carolina’s attackers. The Courage increased their level of play and created some chances but Orlando’s defense delivered big time. Great job overall by all the players that showed that they truly want to make a playoff run. Orlando won the game without blinking, showing that they are making Exploria Stadium a fortress against all foes.

Orlando Pride will face Angel City on October 2nd for a must win game, onwards to the NWSL playoffs.
