With a GOLAZO from Duncan McGuire, Orlando City defeated Portland Timbers 1-0.

Duncan McGuire scored the only goal for Orlando City in the first half, leading them to a 1-0 win against the Portland Timbers in front of a crowd of 21,256 at Inter&Co Stadium. Despite facing pressure in the second half, Orlando City was able to maintain their unbeaten streak in the regular season, now at 12 games, tying the previous record set in 2020. This win also means Orlando City remains undefeated against Portland at home with a 3-0-0 record.

In the opening half, Orlando City struggled to convert their chances due to poor decisions, wayward passes, and ineffective shots near the goal. Portland opted for a defensive strategy with a 5-4-1 formation, limiting Orlando City’s attacking options. However, Orlando City created more promising scoring opportunities in the first half. Towards the end of the game, the Timbers tried to keep possession but failed to threaten Orlando’s defense, only managing seven shots, with only two on target. Gallese made two crucial saves to secure his seventh clean sheet of the season.

Soon after, McGuire was in a difficult situation as he got trapped between two Portland players and fell to the ground. He grimaced in pain while clutching his wrist and had to get medical help. Even though he tried to keep playing, he was taken out in the 67th minute and substituted with Ramiro Enrique. Martin Ojeda then came in for Muriel, who had been having a hard time with his attacking play during the game.

In the second half, Gallese bravely stopped crosses from Portland by coming out of his goal. He caught a dangerous cross before Kelsy could get to it in the 71st minute. Tension rose among Orlando City fans in the 76th minute when Brekalo and Portland’s Ariel Lassiter fell in the penalty box. Brekalo touched the ball with his right foot, while Lassiter seemed to go down without contact, so no foul was called. Gallese made a great save in the 79th minute by deflecting a header over the crossbar. He also stopped a cross and knocked away a long-range shot. Portland struggled to create good chances, with their crosses being cleared by the Orlando defense. Schlegel and Jansson got yellow cards during extra time. The Lions managed to secure the win. They will play Atlanta United on Wednesday.
