Orlando City B get shocked late against New England Revolution II as they lose 0-1

Orlando City B (16 pts, 3-4-2) traveled to the Northeast to take on New England Revolution II (17 pts, 4-3-2). They headed up north after defeating Atlanta United II 2-0 the week prior.

Lineup

Orlando City B went into their game against New England Revolution II without a single first team player in the match day squad. With such a congested schedule for the first team, this isn’t too surprising, especially since OCB is on the road. This gave a lot of young players an opportunity to start.

The backline went back to the partnership of Titus Sandy Jr. and Landon Okonski, with Bernardo Rhein and Parker Amoo-Mensah at the fullback spots. With Tristan Himes still out (and after his great performance last week), Luca Maxim gets the start in goal. Dylan Judelson started with a new partner, in Jacob Ramirez, while Ignacio “Nacho” Gómez moved into the attacking midfield spot. Mathew Belgodere started at the left wing with Issah Haruna at the right wing. Pedro Leão completed the lineup playing as the striker up top.

On the bench, OCB has some good pieces. Juan Rojas returns from injury and takes the backup keeper spot. Jaylen Yearwood and Clovis Archange are two quality defensive pieces on the bench for OCB. Justin Hylton, the up-and-coming midfielder from Orlando’s academy, makes his first appearance in the matchday squad.

First Half

It was a dominant half for both sides, at different moments. Orlando City B had the kickoff and decided to pin New England Revolution II deep in their half. They were able to use the press to their advantage, getting an early shot against Revolution II within the first two minutes of the match. After that moment, the game tilted a bit.

Revolution II would dominate the next 25 minutes or so, as they kept sending wave after wave of pressure. They really pressed high and tried to force OCB to turn the ball over but OCB was able to withstand wave after wave. In that time period, Revolution II were able to put up 4 shots but only one was on target. In the middle of this period, Ramirez would make a rough tackle on a Revolution player resulting in a yellow card, the first of the match. The teams would get a much-needed water break, as many of the boys on both sides appeared to be winded.

In the last 10 minutes of the half, OCB turned on their own amount of pressure and really looked for ways to push their own agenda. The plays really developed from Leão, Gómez, and Haruna as they continued to play off each other but also stretch the backline of Revolution II. This allowed Belgodere to have a few chances himself, as he ended up open on his own side. OCB would have one shot on target in the half, but it wouldn’t amount to much for the Orlando squad.

There was a last-ditch effort by both teams, as the half neared, to try and put a goal up in the final minutes but both were unsuccessful bringing the game to 0-0 at the break.

Second Half

The second half started much better for Orlando City B, with the team coming out with some fire and some bite. Within the first 10 minutes, they were able to get two more shots off, with one shot being hit off the post from Rhein. OCB had two chances from Haruna that went wayward but it really seemed like the pitch was continuing to affect the OCB side. Orlando would make their first sub in the 67th minute, as Caleb Trombino would come on to replace Jacob Ramirez in the hopes to shore up the middle of the park.

Shortly after in the 68th minute, OCB would have another chance on net that would be put just wide by Haruna after receiving the ball from the left side of the field. Orlando would have a few more half chances around this time but got caught on the break twice after their spell with one of the Revolution II’s shots going wide while the other was saved by Maxim. OCB would then make 2 more subs bringing on Clovis Archange for Titus Sandy Jr. and Logan Tsopanoglou for Pedro Leão.

Revolution II would get two more half-chances, with Archange and Okonski asked to defend well in order to keep the ball out while OCB’s fullbacks also created a few counterattacking opportunities. Shortly after this spell, the ref would call for another water break. Out of the water break, Revolution II would put on some more pressure that almost resulted in a goal off a corner but it was cleared away. Maxim had a nervy moment right after as the ball was on the right side of the box and not cleared well by him or Amoo-Mensah but it would get pushed out.

OCB would make one last set of changes as Jaylen Yearwood would come on for Parker Amoo-Mensah and Justin Hylton would come on for Issah Haruna. These would be Hylton’s first minutes for OCB in 2026 and he attempted to use his strength and speed immediately. It wouldn’t be enough, unfortunately, as Judah Siqueira would squeak the ball past Maxim and put New England Revolution II up 1-0 in stoppage time.

The young Lions would attempt to try to get one back but they wouldn’t be able to do so with the game ending 1-0 in favor of New England Revolution II.

Players to Highlight

  • Landon Okonski-Defense was the name of the game for OCB this match so I have to recognize one of the most solid defenders for the young Lions. Okonski was a great partner for both Sandy Jr. and Archange (though I preferred his partnership with Archange a bit more). He ended the afternoon playing a full 90, with a 94% passing rate, 5 passes into the final third, 2 long balls, 2 tackles, 3 clearances, 3 interceptions, 5 recoveries, won 38% of his ground duels, and 50% of his aerial duels.
  • Dylan Judelson-He played another very quality game for OCB and he continues to show his confidence in the middle of the park. He had two partners who weren’t the most confident on the day but he still did well to carry the midfield. He ended up playing a full 90, with a 93% passing rate, 10 passes into the final third, 5 long balls, 3 tackles, 1 block, 1 interception, 3 recoveries, and won 71% of his ground duels.
  • Bernardo Rhein-He had another quality day for OCB, getting forward consistently while defending well throughout the match. He ended the afternoon playing 90 minutes, an 89% passing rate, 1 shot (that hit the post), 1 long ball, 2 tackles, 2 clearances, 2 interceptions, 10 recoveries, won 25% of his ground duels, and 100% of his aerial duels.

Other Players to Note:

  • Luca Maxim-Luca deserves another shoutout this week. While he wasn’t able to keep the clean sheet, he still had a good match. He ended with 2 saves, a 78% passing rate, and 8 recoveries. He’s making a good case to continue to be the starting keeper for OCB until he goes to school.

What’s Next?

Orlando City B (16 pts., 3-4-2) head home to take on in-state rivals Inter Miami II (4 pts., 0-3-6) on Sunday, May 24th at 7:00 p.m. Last time these teams met, Orlando City B had an amazing comeback and was able to beat Inter Miami II in penalty kicks. This match will occur after the first team takes on FC Cincinnati the day prior, so there isn’t much expectation that many first team players will be available for this match.
