50 Goals of Marta & A Statement Win: Orlando Pride Dismantled the KC Current 3-0!

Man, if you were at Inter&Co Stadium for this one, you witnessed a total masterclass in patience and tactical discipline. Despite inclement weather and all, it was a game of two halves, a tense, high-stakes chess match that ended with a dominant 3-0 win for the Pride.

The first 45 minutes were an absolute grind. We didn’t start Barbra Banda, and while the team came out firing, it was clear that finishing was the missing piece of the puzzle. Within the first ten minutes, the Pride were all over Kansas City. Marta, Kerry Abello, and Jacquie Ovalle were orchestrating the attack, looking sharp, and trying to stretch the defense. We saw some impressive intent early on, including back-to-back long-distance efforts from Angelina that narrowly missed. Then, in the 17th minute, we saw the closest call of the half: Cori Dyke went on a phenomenal run down the right flank, linking up perfectly with Solai Washington, but the final shot just sailed wide.

As the half wore on, Kansas City tried to respond through Rocky Rodriguez, Debinha, and Croix Bethune. They brought the heat, but our defense held firm. Cori Dyke and Sara Chavoshi were absolute anchors back there, absorbing that pressure and shutting down KC’s attempts to break out. The midfield trio of Angelina, Ally Lemos, and Haley McCutcheon did a fantastic job winning the hustle plays, but heading into the break at 0-0, the frustration was obvious: we were forcing turnovers and getting into transition, but we just lacked that final, clinical touch to put it away. It was a total tactical stalemate—both sides were terrified of getting caught on the counter.

But after that halftime reset, the narrative shifted from “cautious” to “clinical.”

The second half turned into the highlight reel we all wanted. Just four minutes in, the GOAT herself, Marta, took charge. From 30 yards out, she uncorked an absolute banger—a 49th-minute laser assisted by Jacquie Ovalle. That’s goal number 50 for Marta in a Pride jersey, and it completely blew the lid off the stadium.

The momentum became unstoppable. In the 57th minute, we capitalized on some lapse coverage from the KC backline. Ally Lemos delivered a perfect ball, and Hannah Anderson rose above the rest to bury a beautiful header. 2-0, and suddenly, Kansas City was reeling, forced to abandon their defensive shell. To cap it all off in the 85th minute, we got the storybook ending. Barbra Banda, fresh off the bench, pounced on a massive blooper from the Kansas City goalkeeper to tap in the third goal.

This win was massive for so many reasons. It showed the depth of this squad—having the tactical discipline to hold a clean sheet in a tight first half and then having the lethal finishing power to blow a top-tier opponent out of the water. From Anna Moorhouse’s wall-like performance in goal—capping off her 100th appearance with a massive nine-save clean sheet—to the return of our star power, this wasn’t just a win; it was a message.

With Zara Chavoshi stepping up for her first start and Banda producing immediately off the bench, the depth chart is finally looking deep enough to handle a serious playoff push. This Pride team has the maturity, the IQ, and the firepower to go all the way this year. If they keep playing with this kind of swagger and defensive stability, nobody in the NWSL will want to face them in the playoffs.
