What a night at Inter&Co, man! The Lions finally flipped the switch and walked out with a huge 2-1 comeback win over Real Salt Lake, snapping that frustrating winless streak and giving the whole place something to scream about.
This one was pure Griezmann magic. The guy just decided, “Alright, I’ll handle it myself.” RSL jumped ahead in the 36th through Dominik Marczuk, and Orlando looked a little stuck. Then the second half hit and Griezmann took over. In the 53rd minute, he pounces on the rebound after Daryl Dike’s shot and levels it. In the 81st minute, he kept his cool in traffic and slotted home the winner. Absolute class. That veteran pedigree showed up exactly when the team needed it most.
The first half was a bit of a grind. Orlando had the ball a lot but couldn’t really punch through that compact RSL block. There was too much sideways stuff and not enough urgency. Salt Lake punished it with a nice long cross from Junqua, and boom, it was a 1-0 deficit going into the locker room.
Whatever was said at halftime made a difference. Furthermore, Perelman substitutions worked and had a giant impact on the game. The Lions came out flying: higher intensity, quicker movement, and pressing that pinned RSL deep. Suddenly it was wave after wave. Almost 60% possession, constant pressure, and the game completely tilted. Substitutes stretched them, Spicer brought that pace off the bench and caused all kinds of problems down the left, Jansson kept launching those trademark long balls, and Gerbet was influential in the midfield.
Yeah, the first 45 was sluggish, and they got caught ball-watching on the opener, but the response after the break was everything you want to see. Tactical tweaks, fresh legs, and real fight were key. That’s the version of this team that hopefully can go on a run. Despite the win, both players and the coaching staff spoke to the media after the game, reiterating that they have to keep improving and working on the small details to bring in the wins.
Griezmann was the clear man of the match: movement, finishing, leadership—the whole package.
Now the Lions will carry this momentum on the road next Saturday against Minnesota at Allianz Field. If they can bottle that second-half energy, keep Griezmann cooking, and clean up those early lapses, this one win can turn into something real.
